In short, the doctrine of the perspicuity (clarity) of Scripture has deeply affected my entire life. Now, how should we understand this doctrine? The doctrine of the clarity of Scripture is easily misunderstood and, I think, commonly misunderstood. In what follows, this lecture gives me the opportunity to give a more precise explanation of this doctrine than I did twenty-four years ago when I wrote that chapter in my Systematic Theology.9 I understand the clarity (perspicuity) of Scripture as follows:
